The Logo

placeholderLATIBAH Collard Green Museum’s logo is a collard green leaf [a leafy, dark green vegetable; a nutritious, staple tradition to southern US cuisine; symbolic of African American culture, tradition and oral history] with an “AYA,” an Ashanti ceremonial symbol depicted as a fern [a hardy plant that can grow in difficult places and is a representation of endurance and resourcefulness].

AyaThese combined characters are fitting, symbolic representations for African Americans – before, during, and after their enslavement in the Americas. To survive as well as to thrive as an enslaved people, certain strengths of character, mind, body, soul, and spirit were needed, as well as, cultural pride to sustain their traditions.
